Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Minimally Invasive Surgery Options

Parrish Healthcare is committed to embracing the latest, cutting-edge technologies with a proven track record, and robotic-assisted surgery is one of them. We currently offer two robotic-assisted surgical options: da Vinci Robotic System and VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution. Robotics aid surgeons in minimally invasive procedures and are transforming the health care industry.

When hearing the words robot or robotic, you may think a surgeon is not performing your surgery. However, that is not the case. Your surgeon still performs the surgery, but the da Vinci system translates your surgeon’s hand movements in real time, thus moving the surgical instruments more precisely.

Benefits of Robotic-Assisted Surgery

There are a range of benefits when robotic assisted surgery is performed vs a traditional, manual surgery. These include:

  • Greater Accuracy: Both the de Vinci Surgical System and VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution provide surgeons with greater control over their movements, which promotes precision and accuracy
  • Reduced Risk of Infection: Minimally invasive procedures allow for smaller incisions, which avoids cutting through as much tissue. This helps reduce the risk of infection overall.
  • Fewer Complications During the Procedure: The change of complications becomes greatly reduced as a result of the procedure being less invasive and more precise.
  • Faster Recovery Time: Minimally invasive procedures with smaller incisions allow for shorter hospital stays and increased recovery times.

de Vinci Surgical System

The de Vinci Surgical System is a surgical system that aids surgeons in minimally invasive procedures. The system was designed to provide surgeons with enhanced capabilities, including high-precision movements of the surgical instruments, improved access to hard-to-reach anatomical locations and 3DHD viewing of the surgery that magnifies 10x what the human eye can see. Below are some of the most common procedures surgeons utilize the da Vinci System to assist with:

  • Colorectal
    • Colon Resection
    • Rectal Resection
  • General Surgery
    • Gallbladder Surgery
    • Hernia Repairs
  • Gynecology
    • Benign Hysterectomy & Hysterectomy for Cancer (Surgical removal of the uterus)
    • Salpingectomy (Surgical removal of one or both fallopian tubes)
    • Oophorectomy (Surgical removal of one or both ovaries)
    • Pelvic Organ Prolapse Repair (Surgical procedure to restore support to pelvic organs that have dropped out of their normal position)
    • Myomectomy for Uterine Fibroids (Surgical removal of uterine fibroids, noncancerous growths in the uterus, to help relieve symptoms while preserving the uterus)
    • Endometriosis Resection (Removal of endometriosis tissue to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life)
    • Lysis of Adhesions (Removal or separation of scar tissue that may cause pain or restrict the movement of pelvic organs)
  • Urology
    • Kidney Surgery
    • Prostate Surgery

VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution

The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution utilizes CT-free technology to help surgeons perform replacement procedures and place implants with precision and accuracy. In other words, it enhances a surgeon’s abilities, and allows them to do better, more precise work, resulting in better results for patients. Orthopedic Surgeon Matthew Musto, DO, is the first in Brevard to use and offer the VELYSTM Robotic-Assisted Solution. Below are procedures that Dr. Musto completes utilizing the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution:

  • Total Knee Replacement
  • Total Hip Replacement

Overall, we see improved patient outcomes when utilizing minimally invasive surgical procedures. Your doctor will discuss your specific needs and determine if robotic surgery is right for you.
